Annual 'Battle of the Badges' Helps Save Lives
![]() |
The annual “Battle of the Badges” between Nacogdoches’ police and fire departments resulted in a big win for patients in need of life-saving blood donations. The two organizations, which engaged in a friendly competition to see which could help save the most lives, brought in a total of 87 blood donations for The Blood Center East Texas – enough to save up to 261 lives.
This was the third year for the “Battle of the Badges,” which took place July 17 and 18. The Nacogdoches Police Department was deemed the winner of this year’s competition, collecting 60 blood donations. The Nacogdoches Fire Department brought in 27 donations. The police department claimed the traveling trophy this year during a Recognition Meeting in Commissioners’ Court on Monday, July 30.
This year’s effort was helmed by chairperson Kim Garner, with assistance from committee chairpersons Candice Halls, of the Nacogdoches Fire Department; and Kari Wright, of the Nacogdoches Police Department. For information on other life-saving opportunities or to schedule your next donation, visit The Blood Center East Texas’ Web site at www.givebloodet.org or call (936) 560-3054.
