The Holiday Hugs program brought smiles to the faces of patients at Memorial Health System and Woodland Heights Memorial Hospital this past December.
All Commit for Life donors who donated or attempted to donate in December were allowed to write a note of well wishes to a patient spending the holidays in the hospital. Notes written by gold-level members were attached to soft, cuddly teddy bears and hand-delivered to patients.
Memorial Health System Chaplain Billy Jackson participated in the bear delivery at that location with recruiter Judy Sheffield. Jackson said it makes his Christmas to enter a patient’s room and present them with a bear as a gift from the blood donors who have helped them regain their health. “The smiles on their faces are enough thanks for me,” Jackson says.
