Stephen F. Austin State University/Sam Houston State University life-saving challenge

 

The rivalry between Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) and Sam Houston State University (SHSU) was at an all time high for this year’s football game.  Both schools partnered with The Blood Center East Texas and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center to help save lives with a challenge blood drive.  SHSU Recreational Department and the Shamos Medical Club hosted drives on the SHSU campus and the Student Affairs Department Volunteer Program and The Village held drives on the SFA Campus. 

Thanks to all of these groups for their participation in a friendly competition that helped save up to 765 lives in the East Texas area.

Stephen F. Austin barely edged out Sam Houston with a single donation.  Of course, the real winners to come out of this event are the patients, who are here today thanks to the generosity of area blood donors.  Even though this event was called a “life-saving challenge,” it also was an example of two schools united by a common cause. 

Congratulations to both Sam Houston State University and to Stephen F. Austin State University for a job well done!
