Sugar Land Community Council Recognized at Celebration of Life

The Sugar Land Community Council was recognized at Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's annual Celebration of Life Luncheon and Awards Ceremony for their outstanding contributions to the Commit for Life program.

The group has helped to raise awareness about the Sugar Land Neighborhood Donor Center, the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and the Commit for Life donor and volunteer programs. This committee worked to schedule donors for the center, encourage repeated donations and was honored with the Gold level Presidential Volunteer Service Award for the contributions they have made.  This council has a commitment to the community that extends beyond saving lives through Commit for Life, they have also become involved in enriching the community as a whole by collecting wrapping paper for Project SMILE and adopting a family with whom to share the Christmas Spirit.

They scheduled four drives last year.  Although Hurricane Rita kept them from holding one of them, they were able to collect 330 total donations, saving up to 990 lives. They have participated in local health fairs and increased the number of donors who visit the facility, saving more lives than can be counted here.  In fact, this past year they honored the 10,000th donor to the Sugar Land Donor Center.
